Maintenance FAQs

Q: Do I need to sign up for a year or more?

A: No, our maintenance packages have no lock-in period. You can pay on a month-by-month basis and cancel at any time without penalty.

Q: My host already performs backups, isn't this enough?

A: Many host providers perform some form of site backup, but our backup service provides greater assurance. We store your data outside the host environment, keeping the two separate. We keep all your backups for 90 days, allowing you to fall back to earlier revisions as required. We can restore your site with the click of a button, and you don’t need to wait in a support queue with your host. Furthermore, if you decide to change your host provider, we can use the latest backup to quickly & easily migrate your site.

Q: If anything goes wrong, do you fix it?

A: The most likely incidents that can arise are update failures, conflicts between plugins/WordPress, expired licenses on plugins or themes, your site being down, or a security alert indicating that your site has been compromised. In the event of maintenance upgrades triggering a conflict, we will revert your site to its pre-update status. In all cases, we will contact you to advise you of the issue. The allotted support time from your package can be used towards correcting the issue. If the issue requires more effort than the allotted support time, it will be charged at our standard hourly rate or, for any major work (e.g. a plugin no longer being supported and an alternative being required), it will be quoted. In the case of a significant incident (e.g. a major site hack and compromise), we may take emergency steps, including taking your site offline, to minimize further damage before contacting you.

Q: Do I still have access to my WordPress admin account?

A: Yes, you do. It’s your site! However, we recommend that you access your site backend via an Editor account, not an Admin account, to minimize the risk of accidental site damage. Please keep in mind that if you initiate software updates to any elements of your site yourself, these will be outside the maintenance package workflow, and if a fallback is required, data may be lost in the process.

Q: Do you update everything whenever a new version is available?

A: Usually, but not always. If we are aware that software developers have issued a new major release to their product and that this release provides no direct benefit to you (i.e. new functions that you don’t use and not security-related), we may defer carrying out upgrades until later update increments have addressed any early-release bugs.

Q: My host has emailed me about some problem, what do I do?

A: If you need our help, we can deal with such matters through your allotted support time.

Q: Do you include hosting services yourself?

A: yes we do! We can host sites we maintain for a no-commitment monthly fee. Alternatively, we can recommend hosting providers that we believe are the best in their field and offer the best value. This provides you with the flexibility to change host providers and, indeed, website maintenance providers, with minimum disruption.

Q: Does my support time accumulate if I don't use it?

A: The monthly support time quota should be used during that month. Any unused amount does not carry forward into later periods.
